Based on a novel by Nevil Shute, this is the story of a crusty Brit on vacation in France, with World War II imminent, who is persuaded to take a friendÕs two small children to safety in England. Other children join the group along the way until the Germans, commanded by Preminger, capture them. The film was nominated for three Academy AwardsÑincluding Best Picture, Best Actor for Woolley, and Best Cinematography.
